Easy Seasonal Crochet Decoration
A small seasonal crochet decoration is a simple way to refresh a shelf, table, or gift wrap without making a large project. This pattern creates a flat hanging circle with a scalloped edge. Change the colors to suit autumn, winter, spring, or a birthday table.
Materials
- Small amount of worsted weight cotton yarn
- 4.5 mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle, scissors, and optional ribbon
Color Ideas
For autumn, use parchment with burgundy or muted brass. For winter, use cream with forest green. For spring, try ivory with dusty pink. Keep the palette limited so the finished decoration feels refined rather than busy.
Pattern
Make a magic ring, or ch 4 and join.
Round 1: Ch 3, work 11 dc into the ring, and join. You will have 12 dc.
Round 2: Ch 3, dc in the same stitch, then 2 dc in each stitch around. Join. You will have 24 dc.
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in the same stitch. Skip 1 stitch, work 5 dc in the next stitch, skip 1 stitch, sc in the next stitch. Repeat around to form scallops. Join and fasten off.
Hanging Loop
Join yarn at the top of one scallop. Ch 14, then sl st back into the same spot to form a loop. Fasten off and weave in the ends securely. If you prefer, thread a narrow ribbon through one scallop instead.
Finishing
Block the decoration lightly so the circle lies flat and the scallops are even. Make several in related colors and hang them from a branch, tie them to wrapped gifts, or place them under small jars as seasonal table accents.
Project Ideas
Use one decoration as a gift tag, three as a small garland, or twelve as a reusable seasonal set. You can also sew a tiny button to the center for extra detail. Keep embellishments flat if the piece will be used under jars or mugs.
Make It Reusable
Store the finished decoration flat between seasons. If it becomes creased, mist it lightly and reshape the scallops with your fingers. Small crochet pieces last longer when they are packed loosely instead of folded tightly.
